Que paso? May 16

Greetings Everyone

I am hanging on during slow season with our titbits of information for the sake of the businesses hanging on for anything! I hesitated for a while as by end next week or so most people have gone and I'll probably be just sending the information out for Frank and myself! but I know you also like to know what is happening.

TUNA NEWS
They have had their decibels checked and approved by the appropriate regulatory body and have music again this week - see below.

CASA AZUL NEWS
Bree is pregnant and we are all delighted for her. Congratulations!

PM PLAZA
The owner of the new little mall has been putting witches hats out the front so no-one can park there. I take no notice of course and just pick them up and drive in and he comes along and puts them back when I leave. Today I went in to tell him that this is not the way to enamour himself to his neighbours when he came out deep in conversation with a policeman about said problem, we shall see.

BOMBEROS
Tomorrow the charity is handing over 12 fire fighting manuals to our Bomberos. El Mundo cottoned on to them on the internet and the publishers IFSTA donated them and KK lugged the whole 70lbs of them down from Austin, no excess and not stopped by customs, yay! Thanks KK. (pic attached)
Our volunteer fire instructors from Ottawa had to bow out due to bureaucratic issues in their city. However, it seems to be working out . Through our friends in Council in Austin we have been working with the Saltillo Bomberos and they are sending 4 instructors down to run the planned training school on May 25th taking advantage of the arranged hotels and food, so all good.

BOOK DRIVE FOR KINDERGARTENS JUNE 18TH and 19th
Valerie Ware has a good response but could do with a little more help , we are trying to get some books to the primary school as well as the kindergartens, iowairis@aol.com.

FLASHLIGHTS NEEDED FOR POLICE
Recently some folks up at Playa Sur had a few problems and the Police said they would come at 5pm; when they failed to arrive the residents called the Police who told them couldn't come because it was now dark. So come on everybody, be reasonable, if you are going to get up to no good do it in daylight!

FISHING TOURNAMENT
Officially CONFIRMED dates for this year's tournament are June 1, 2 and 3.

CASA CULTURA 18 Mayo 7pm, Casa Cultura, Salon Nohoch
Has a showing of AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH in English with Spanish subtitles, everyone is invited and its free! Al Gore eloquently demonstrates the global warming crisis.
Don't forget to look at the list of wonderful lessons offered by the Casa

BARAKA BEACH BAR

ASTHMA WORKSHOP
went off very well last Sunday. Attended by 6 local doctors it was a workshop about management of asthma in the community run by Dr Smita Shah of University of Sydney and Dr Alfonso Apolinar. The initiative for the workshop was the results of the charity's community survey which showed dramatically the large amount of respiratory issues in our town. (pic attached)
