ENGLISH TEACHING IN PUERTO MORELOS
Patti and I had the pleasure of meeting with Nadesma Zarina Valencia Campo this week, as the Co-ordinator for the Education Dept for Learning English as a Foreign Language for Quintana Roo (North Zone), she patiently explained the current critical shortage of English teachers. Our community survey showed us the keen interest of the community in learning and so we are looking for people who have English as their first language to train. For a retired person this is extremely feasible and very rewarding. There is a training program starting June 15th, every Friday and Saturday for 5 hours until July 10, sponsored by the University of Cambridge, this course supplies a certificate to teach English here. Your commitment would be teaching mornings 3 days a week through the school year. You would make an enormous difference to the lives of these children and their chance of gainful employment and further education. Please contact us if you will attend current or future training.

UNIVERSITY OF ANAHUAC
Magaly and I met with Pschologist Alejandro Madrid Irueste at the University and explained some of our charity's upcoming projects to assist the community of PM. He was very interested and we are discussing involving their Leadership Program students in various school and community activities. Keep an eye out for them this summer.

PUERTO MORELOS CHILDREN TO RECEIVE FREE BOOKS!!!
We have had a wonderful response to our drive to provide free books to the kindergarteners in Puerto Morelos by people who love visiting Puerto Morelos. Their generosity has been amazing! We collected more than $1,000 to buy books with and others have directly donated books. We have expanded the book distribution to include 252 kindergarteners, 98 first graders and 110 second graders. Each child will get to choose a book and take it home. We will be giving books to a total of 460 children to encourage reading!!! The books are either Spanish language or bilingual books.

Distribution will be held on June 18th & 19th at the three primary schools. It should be a fun event and we will post lots of pictures of the children with their books. Thanks for all for your support and to Cat for working with the schools to arrange this. (Valerie Ware)
